Those people were out of work due to the previous Labour government propping up nationalised industries,such as the car industry which was making rubbish cars that were stockpiled up and no one abroad wanted to buy.That unemployment was there under Labour but the government pumped in tax payers money to keep dying industries going.Thatcher came in and had the balls to stop that.
